Surface Book 3 Ain’t Too Shabby

Microsoft has finally updated their most powerful Surface device, the Surface Book! The Surface Book 3 gets a considerable spec jump that makes the recent Macbook Pro 13″ upgrade look like childs play. Taking a look at the specs we can see that the Surface Book 3 includes…

  • GPU Options for both 13″ & 15″ (GTX 1650 in 13″ or 1660 ti in 15″)
  • RTX 3000 Quadro GPU option for 15″
  • Intel 10th gen Core i7-1065G7 for 15″  Intel Core i5-1035G7 for 13″ (only 15w unfortunately)
  • Full size USH-II SDXD card reader
  • Wifi 6 + Bluetooth 5 connectivity
  • More powerful Surface Charger  & new upgraded Surface Dock (separate)
  • 2x USB-A 3.1 Gen 2 ports with 1x USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 with Power Delivery and Displayport 1.4 support
  • Dolby Atmos compatible speakers
  • Beam forming microphone for better vocal audio
  • Microsoft claiming 17+ hours battery life on “typical usage
  • Price starting at $1600

As you can see, this is a spec machine, with a lot of great features. I think what sets this flagship apart from others, is that it packs a great dedicated GPU option for both the 13″ and 15″ model, which opens up the lines versatility. I’m also very happy to see the extra little features like Beam forming mics, Dolby Atmos compatibility, Wifi 6 inclusion, and optional RTX 3000 Quadro support. It’s not the mobile gaming powerhouse you’re getting from other manufacturers, and it’s not the best laptop value you can get. But if you want a great build quality, matched with great specs, the Surface Book 3 does deliver a damn compelling option.
